Joan L. (Lemoncelli) Lakomec

Joan Lakomec, 89, died on Thursday, December 14, 2017, surrounded by her family.  She courageously dealt with chronic health issues for decades, always with a smile and a willingness to try. These health issues led her to spend her last 6 months at Willow Point, where she received loving care from the staff on South 2.  Prior to that, Joan resided at Woodburn Ct. where a community of friends made a wonderful difference in her life for 16 years.  Surviving Joan are her children, John (Sandi) Lakomec and Terri (Edward, 'a second son') Bobal; grandchildren, John (Chelsea) Lakomec and Bret (Kristie) Lakomec; and beloved great-granddaughter, Presley.  She is also survived by her siblings, Eleanor, Marion (Carey) and Allan (Bonnie);  many nieces, nephews, god-children, cousins, extended family members and dear friends, Wendy 'a second daughter', Faye and Helen.  Joan is now reunited with departed family members, her husband, John; parents, Anna & Quinto Lemoncelli; her brother Ted; numerous in-laws, extended family members; and dear, dear friends, Mary Stimak and Millie Risko.  Hopefully by now, Joanie has run in to the arms of her "Nonna", for whom she has been recently calling. Annie is cooking gnocci and halupki, Ted is rounding up Francine, Will and Aunt Mary for a poker game.  Ah, the good old days!  Now, please rest well without pain. We love you, Mom!  A Divine Liturgy with memorial prayers for Joan Lakomec will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Monday, December 18, 2017, at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 296 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY.  Committal will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mercy House in Endicott or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  Arrangements by Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc.
