Sara Fae Hmurcik Obituary

Sara Fae Bastian-Hmurcik, 65, of Kirkwood, New York passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at her   home. Born November 8, 1957, in Williamsport, PA, she was a daughter of the late Elwood M. and Jesse M. (Muse) Bastian. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1975, and later in life graduated with her master’s degree from Binghamton University. Surviving in addition to her husband, Gary, her son, Chandler Hmurcik of Kirkwood, N.Y.; five dogs: Josie, Jackson, Abby, Penny, and Harley Quinn; a bird, Sydney, and a cat, Nosy. Sara’s greatest joy in life was the birth of our son, Chandler, who she adored and whose world revolved around him. She especially enjoyed our trips to the beach with her family. She also enjoyed trips later in life with her sister and Sharon McCarty on cruises and the beach. No one cared more for animals, especially dogs than Sara, we had as many as 7 Bernese Mountain dogs and a Keeshond at one time, when she showed them. She was also an avid birdwatcher she loved nothing more to be able to look outside of the living room and watch what different birds may have visited her one of many birdhouses she especially loved whenever a cardinal or a few finches stopped by for a snack, she also loved when the humming birds stopped by too especially because that was the favorite of her beloved sister Fonda Jane Stamets. Sara Fae was preceded in death by her sister, Fonda Jane Stamets, brother-in-law Bobby Stamets and her New York State mother, Jerry Walker. She and her husband, Gary A. Hmurcik of Kirkwood, NY, would have celebrated thirty-one wonderful years on July 4 th . Sara Fae was a devoted wife, mother and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was previously employed for over 44 years as a program manager for the former IBM Federal Systems and Lockheed Martin Corporation specializing in work for the Department of Defense. She graduated from Johnson and Wales College and started as a secretary for IBM and worked her way up the corporate ladder when it was very difficult for women to reach higher positions of authority. She managed two rather large successful programs and was nominated as an Honorary U.S Marine.
