Robert G. Tomanek, 85, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, March 27, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Rose Tomanek, brother and sister-in-law Will and Joan Tomanek.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years this June, Lena (Masaryk) Tomanek. His children, Bob, Jr.; Lt Paul and his wife, Barbara; Leann and her companion James Nunnally; Midge and her husband Brad Berfield; grandchildren; Gina Tomanek, Paul Jr. Sister-in-law, Marie Hudgick, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity Parish at St. Ann’s Church. He was a Church Trustee, a member of the Holy Name Society, Commentator, Lector and Eucharistic Minister, Usher, Member of the Parish Council, Finance Committee, Slovak Cemetery Association, Bingo Team captain, Human Development Committee. He was a New York Guard, Naval Reserve, veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Missouri during the Korean War, a Member of the Missouri Association and the Czechosolvak Moravian Club, a retired employee of IBM with over 30 years of service and was an avid hunter.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of the Holy Trinity 346 Prospect St. Binghamton on Monday, March 30 at 2 PM. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Church of the Holy Trinity on Monday from 12 Noon until the time of the service.
