Richard E. De Mars, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully after a long battle with many illnesses. He was predeceased by his wife, Lynn De Mars; his son, Richard De Mars, Jr.; his father, John De Mars, Sr.; his mother, Dorothy Smith; and his siblings, John De Mars, Jr., Agnes Schrader, Veronica Lagana and Paul De Mars. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Jason) Katsares; grandchildren, Breann, Jack and Ricky, all of Vestal; his brother, David (Lisa) De Mars, Sr., of Endicott; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and a special cousin, Jessica Gale. Rick was retired employee of Lockheed Martin Corp., a former employee of Singer-Link Corp./Microflite, NYSEG Ithaca and was also a math teacher at Union-Endicott High School. He was a graduate of SUNY Cortland State University and earned his Masters degree in computer science from Binghamton University. While he worked on many crafts, Rick's love was quilting. He was the ultimate quilter and made many spectacular quilts which he donated to Mercy House. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Binghamton General Palliative Care for the kind, dignified treatment given to Rick. Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the time of the service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Mercy House.
