Lillian Pochily, 94, passed away peacefully at Mercy House on Monday, February 20, 2023 with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Bernard; her son-in-law, William Striley; granddaughter, Kelly (Pochily) Zurenda; great-granddaughter, Lily; grandson-in-law, Allen Dorak; and all of her five siblings. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David (Nancy) Pochily and Robert Pochily; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lori (Robert) Clemente and Donna Striley; special daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Pochily; 8 grandchildren, Carol (Tommy) Barker, Gary (Mur) Pochily, JoEllen (Nick) Dorak-Tarcha, Sharon (Marcus) Dattoria, Daniel (Trisha) Clemente, Branden Pochily, Thomas (Michelle Esworthy) Clemente and Maggie Striley. Also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, Mary and Nicholas Dorak, Peyton, Zachary and Brooklynn Dattoria, Cameron and Parker Clemente and Lexi Striley; several nieces and nephews. Lillian was the youngest of 6 children born to Eva and William Kosik. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. She and Bernie raised their family in Johnson City where she also worked for the Johnson City School District as a baker in the cafeteria, a job she truly loved. She was a wonderful cook and baker and took pride in all of the ethnic dishes she prepared for her family and others. Lillian had a special place in her heart for children and was a foster mother to several babies. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought warmth to her heart and a big smile to her face. Mom was endlessly grateful for the care she received from her daughter, Donna and her family, and her son, Bob, which allowed her to remain in her home as long as possible. Lillian's family would like to thank the staff at Mercy House and Lourdes Hospice for their compassionate and amazing care during the last two weeks of her life. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 PM and from 9:00-9:30 AM on Thursday. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery in the Spring.
