Janet B. Manbeck, 86, died at home on March 31, 2021 with her cat, Lincoln, by her side. She graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1956 and Teachers College, Columbia University. Janet taught home economics at Union Endicott High School and Whitney Point High School. An avid gardener, an excellent baker, and a Girl Scout troop leader extraordinaire, Janet was also a volunteer with the Boy Scouts and treasurer for the Southern Tier Chapter of the New York State Retired Teachers Association for many years. She loved to play Scrabble, Chinese checkers, and Parcheesi; adored breakfast at Friendly's; took piano lessons with the inimitable Cheryl Kindt; sang with the Downtown Singers for decades; and enjoyed meetings of her beloved book group. Janet is survived by her daughter, Anne J. Mamary, her son, A. James (Celia) Mamary; and her granddaughters, Hannah Rose and Lily Ruth Mamary. She is also survived by her brother, Harvey (Glenda) Manbeck; her sister Barbara Bieber; her sisters-in-law, Sara Manbeck and Mary Mamary; her brother-in-law, Joe Mamary, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is survived, too, by her "second family," George, Meredith, Mark, and Kristin (Miles) Manitzas. She was predeceased by her parents, Elias Robert Franklin and Pearl (Bright) Manbeck; brother, Robert Manbeck; sisters, Mildred Cibrowski and Lois Manbeck; and stepmother, Alberta (Hollinger) Manbeck. Her helpers Pam Pasquale, Jacque Boneck, April Backus, Ja'tona Cody, and Carole Grummons brought laughter, comfort, and joy to Janet's final years; we are eternally grateful. Janet was a cat lover and requested donations in her name in lieu of flowers to the cat rescue Halfway Home: Rescued City Kitties of Binghamton, NY. Donations can be made by check to:
