Florence H. Machalek, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph & Michalina Balcerski; her son, Arthur Skrzypek; baby daughter, Karen; brothers, Henry, Stanley, Alex, Bruno and Edward; her sisters, Josephine and Wanda; and her first husband, Arthur Skrzypek. She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen "Cheech" Machalek; her children, Michael (Janet) Skrzypek and Barbara (Robert) Warpus; and a daughter-in-law, Loretta Skrzypek. She has 7 grandchildren who she loved dearly; Elizabeth (Matt) Viggiano, Amy (Chris) Napier, Kristen (Brian) Garofola, Carrie (Jeff) Balthaser, Colleen (Mike) Raftery, Luke Warpus and Brooke Warpus. Also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, Maia and Shae Viggiano, Bryce and Harper Napier, Aiden and Hudson Garofola, Gwen Brunnabend and Liam Raftery; her loving sister, Nora Mazursky, who joined Florence and her friends to go gambling on the Holy Trinity bus trips. She and Nora also had weekly shopping trips with her good friend, Agnes. Florence loved to play cards, listen to her polkas, and sing and dance. She was a big fan of the Yankees and went to a game for her 80th birthday with her sons, Michael and Arthur; she loved the Buffalo Bills and made a trip to training camp with her daughter. She was a big hit with the players and also went to a game with family. Florence has many nieces and nephews, most who call her Cioci Florence. She was famous for making her banana cake, noodles & sauerkraut, halupki and the best kalochki ever. She will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends. We would like to thank her caretakers, Elli and Amanda, who were like family to her. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:30 AM on Monday, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton. Family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 AM on Monday at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
