Evelyn M. Vavro, 100, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister; and her beloved husband of 62 years, Joseph A. Vavro. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Cheryl Vavro Dempsey; her loving granddaughter and spouse, Sarah & Daniel McCue; and her treasured great-grandson, Desmond Joseph McCue. Evelyn was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Women's Army Corp. (WAC). She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity and its Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles, but she especially loved to bake and share her specialties with others. A special thanks to Dr. Steven Spivak for his many years of compassionate care and friendship. It was Evelyn's request that those wishing light a candle in her memory to symbolize hope in the midst of darkness. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton. Family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass at 11:00 AM. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith." Arrangements by Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc.
