Evelyn Vajay

Evelyn Vajay, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She joined her beloved husband of 72 years, John Vajay.  She was also predeceased by her parents, Frank & Josephine Uhrinec; and her sister, Rose Klimow.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail & Bob Cline; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Diane Vajay, of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren, Cindy & Andy Grospin, Kim & Mark Maietta and Jeff & Tracey Vajay;  great-grandchildren, Tara Grospin, and Brooke & Kaylee Maietta; sister-in-law, Mary Vlasak; several nieces and nephews, including Stephen Klimow and Arlene Joiner.  Evelyn was a real estate broker for 22 years, but more importantly, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Evelyn had a strong faith and was a member of John Hus Presbyterian Church for over 80 years.  Her number one priority was always her family and friends.  Her warmth, kindness and sensitive nature touched everyone around her.  A large part of Evelyn's life was spent with special friends including Irene & Fred Sabacek, at Stonehenge Recreation Association in Greene, NY.  Evelyn enjoyed many Sundays playing cards and sharing special times with her close friends Josephine Tomik and Ann Perham.  Evelyn was extremely grateful and appreciative of all the love and support that she received these last few months from her family, the Hospice nurses and aides, and a very special caretaker, Sheila Cline, whom Evelyn adored.  While Evelyn's family is grateful that she is no longer in pain and is finally at peace with her husband, John, she will be missed more than she'll ever know.  She was a special person woman who will forever be in our hearts.  Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at John Hus Presbyterian Church, 47 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton, NY.  Family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John Hus Presbyterian Church or to Lourdes Hospice, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, NY  13905.   Arrangements by Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc.
