Evelyn DeGroat 83, passed away Saturday June 27, 2015, predeceased by beloved husband, Charles J DeGroat Jr. in 2005; and granddaughter, Angela L. Root in 1978. Survived by two daughters, Patricia DeGroat and Virginia Hatch; 6 grandchildren Jeffrey, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Alan, Curtis, and Jessica; and 9 great-grandchildren, Darren, Mickayla, Alyssa, Anna, Orion, Connor, Ash, Benjamin, and Abbigail.
Evelyn was always there for anyone who needed someone to talk to and she loved her family dearly. She would give you her last slice of bread if she thought that you were hungry. But, then again she was always trying to feed you. If she thought that you were coming to see her or she had something that she needed you to do for her, she was baking "Chocolate Cake, Cinnamon Rolls". I can smell them now…... Once you filled your belly full of goodies, she would want to sit and talk about anything on your mind. Mom always listened to every word. I can never remember mom afraid to speak out and say exactly how she felt on the subject.
Evelyn was not a rich woman nor was she extravagant, but simple in a very elegant way. Inside she was beautiful, and her heart full of "LOVE".! Halloween was her favorite holiday; the whole family came to her house dressed in something different every year. Loved her pumpkins, carved by Alan every year two-month -early special-request!!!! "Make a new one, you know just what I want" She bought so much candy for all the children around, we went home with bags of it! LOL. Mom, Grandma, whatever she was to you, will be dearly missed, especially when you would get those messages on your cell "I don't want to bother you but when you get a chance give me a call." I don't think anyone realizes how special someone is until they are not there to talk to or pick up the phone …start to dial and STOP!!!!!!!! MOM, GRANDMA, GREAT GRANDMA…..will always be with us because we all carry a part of her in our personalities, and OUR HEARTS the memories you never lose………
Someone in the family will always say the phrase "I know what she would say about that…. Smile when you say those words because GOD knows she is listening and smiling right back stating "I knew you would understand someday, better late than never" She would get a BIG kick out of that!
MOM…. WE ALL LOVE YOU WITH ALL OUR HEARTS AND WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH!
