Dominick Montemagno Obituary

It is with  great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our Patriarch, Dominick Montemagno, Jr., on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at age 69.   Dom was predeceased by his parents, Dominick and Betty Montemagno. He grew up in Johnson City and Castle Creek. After graduating from Whitney Point High School, he attended Broome Community College, where he met his wife Lois.  He then went on to Clarkson University and majored in accounting. He worked at Weathermaster Roofing Co. for 44 years as its sole estimator, a job which he truly enjoyed and was dedicated to. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Lois (Massar) Montemagno; his sons, Dominick lll (Traci) and Anthony (Maria). He CHERISHED his three grandchildren. Angelo, Tino, and Lola Montemagno-- his "Princess." Also survived by his sister, Mari-Jo Kinney (Ed); sisters-in-law Donna Massar and Shari Massar; brother-in-law Richard Massar (Cindy); along with many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his aunts, Marion Taylor and Vita Montemagno. Dom was an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved playing and watching sports, especially his children's and grandchilren's games. He was a member of the Chenango Valley Teacher's golf league for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the notorius "Dinos", a group of friends for over 50 years. His annual trips to Saratoga, Bethany Beach, DE. and the Peters place in Sacketts Harbor for the fishing trip, were the highlights of his summer.  Dom was very active in the Hillcrest community when his boys were growing up. He was President of the Hillcrest Community Association, served as baseball commissioner, coached many sports teams, and was a Boy Scout Webelo leader for Troop 199. Dom was a member of the American Legion Post 1194. A Hillcrest Rotary member for many years, he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award and also served as president of the club. Dom was a tremendous aid in helping to care for his elderly in-laws in order to keep them at home. "How many sons-in-law would do what Dominick is doing?' his mother-in-law would say. As a devoted family man, he always put himself last and made sure his family had what they needed. His family's happiness was his happiness. This family will not be the same without him. As his daughter-in-law said "He loved hard." A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1031 Chenango St., Binghamton,N.Y. on Wednesday, December 11th at 10:00 AM. Please consider a donation to his most loved charity St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements by Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc.
