Carol "Cal" and Dan (Bleisnick) Veargason

Daniel John and Carol “Cal” (Bleisnick), residents of San Jose. With great sadness, we announce the deaths of Carol “Cal” (Bleisnick) Veargason and Daniel John Veargason, née Green. Cal and Dan, originally from Binghamton, New York, married November 19, 1960, and moved to San Jose, California, in 1969 with their young family. Cal was born in Binghamton on March 20, 1938, and died in San Jose on April 25, 2024. Dan was born in Binghamton on October 6, 1935, and died in San Jose on June 12, 2023. Dan was a graduate of Binghamton North High School’s Technical-Mechanical program, the basis for his career, working for various material handling equipment companies, starting as a service mechanic and advancing to President of National Sales. From 1953 to 1957, Dan served in the US Navy on the USS Hector and USS Coral Sea. Cal graduated from Binghamton Central High School and worked 20+ years as a technical draftsman, later earning a Bachelor of Arts in English (1987) and Master of Arts in English Literature (1992) from San Jose State University. Both were active members of Saint Basil the Great Byzantine Catholic Church of Los Gatos. Dan dedicated a year to write his own pamphlet version of Saint John’s Liturgy, complete with margin glossary defining church terms. He followed by researching several decades of genealogy, exploring his ethnic history in Eastern Europe and New York state. Cal was an avid reader and linguist who kept many language dictionaries close at hand. She valued education and knowledge, living by “Cogito, ergo sum” and was proud of her essay which earned San Jose State’s Robert H. Woodward Award for Outstanding Student in American Literature. Together they enjoyed cooking and socializing with friends and family, traveling, and self-renovating their home. Dan and Cal were preceded in death by their daughter, Catherine Ann Veargason (August 17, 1961-May 28, 2017). Cal was predeceased by her mother and father, Ann (Hodock) and Michael Bleisnick; and sister, Patricia Lucia. Dan was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Katherina (Kerth) and Ashley Veargason; father, William Green; and infant brother, William Green. Both are survived by their sons, Christopher and John Veargason (Christin Roberts), of San Jose; brother/brother-in-law, Michael Bleisnick (Paula Fineman) of Red Bank, New Jersey; granddaughters, Ellen and Amy Veargason; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Cal and Dan will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 11:00 am, at Saint Basil the Great Byzantine Catholic Church of Los Gatos, with Interment on Monday, May 20 at Holy Spirit Cemetery, Binghamton, New York.
