Carol McMurrray Obituary

Carol J. Kokalas McMurray, 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Mercy House.  She was predeceased by her husband, Harold G. McMurray; her mother, Margaret Flederbacher; her father, Joseph C. Kokalas; her brother, Joseph J. Kokolas; and her niece, Catherine Ann Vespucci (Paul).  She is survived by her daughter, Mary Shaffer-Sabine; her nieces, Peggy Steber (Dave) and Donna Cullins (Bryan); stepdaughter, Patti Welch (Lee); granddaughter, Alexis Schwenk; many great-nieces, nephews and cousins.   Carol was a graduate of JCHS class of 1960 and was a 23-year employee of I.B.M. Corp.. starting in the keypunch department and finishing in robotics.  Carol was involved in many organizations within the community.  She served in the American Legion Auxiliary for 44 years and was the Past President of American Legion Posts 758 and 1305. Carol was a member of the  8 & 40 group and served as shapo in Salon 37 for twenty years.She was on the committee to create Memorial Park and its gazebo.  One of her favorite activities was organizing the Memorial Day and Veterans' Day services where she made wreaths for local cemeteries and the gazebo.  She also participated in the German Club and the Polish Club.  A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 AM  at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.  The family would like to thank Mercy House for the loving care given to Carol in her final days, as well as the grace shown to her daughter.  Memorial donations may be made to Mercy House or the family.
