Albert F. Kaminsky, of Binghamton

Albert F. Kaminsky, Sr., 87, WWII US Navy Veteran of the American campaign, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2015 with his family by his side.  For many years, he built homes as a developer, with his construction company, Kaminsky & Sons, in Binghamton, Johnson City, and Vestal.  His development, Valley View is on Jensen Rd, Almar Dr, and Denal Way.  In 1958-59, he served as President of the Southern Tier Home Builders Assoc.  He was a plank owner and commissioning crew member of the USS Leyte (CV-32).  In later years, he served as President and Treasurer of the USS Leyte Assoc and was a member of American Legion Post 1305.  As Scoutmaster, he led Boy Scout Troops 32 and 267, Susquenango Council.  His lessons were well learned by his many Boy Scouts who went on to serve the local community and nation.  He was especially proud of his work at "The Pavilion" during its heyday in the Big Band era.  He was a descendant of the first Lithuanian family in Binghamton and a scholar with intimate knowledge of the Lithuanian families that settled Binghamton's first ward.  In 1911, his father, Frank Kaminsky (born in Binghamton), returned to Lithuania with his parents and siblings.  His father returned to Binghamton in 1925.  In the summer of 2013, Al, accompanied by his daughter, Denise and grand-daughter, Sarah, fulfilled his lifelong dream and traveled to Lithuania.  During his trip, Al traveled the entire country, visited the villages of his parents, and met many of his cousins.  His was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Tokos); his mother Nellie Strole;  his brothers-in-law, Frank and John Tokos; his cousin, Albert Kaminsky; and his best friend Albert Morkunas.  He is survived by his wife Barbara (Mushock); his sisters-in-law, Patricia Charpinsky and Theresa Tokos; his brother-in-law, Jerry Tokos (Sylvia); his sons Albert (Carol), Kurt (Heidi), Gerald (Mary); daughter, Denise; his stepchildren, Jodie (Louis) and Janelle (Lewy); his grandchildren, Michael (Alyssa), Ariane, Sarah, Johnny, Albert III, Karly, Kiefer, Dante, James, Jeffrey, and Taylor; his great-grandchildren, Gabby, Braxtin, and Everett; his many nieces and nephews; and his close family friends, Mike and Angela Miller and Kenny and Joyce Francisco.
Funeral services will be held starting at 10:15 AM on Wednesday at Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton and at 11:00 AM at St Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered.   Family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.   Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
