Regina Dolores Matakas

Regina Dolores Matakas, 96, a longtime resident of Binghamton, NY, died peacefully Saturday, December 30, 2017, in Rochester, NY, surrounded by her loving family. Regina was predeceased by her husband, William Matakas; parents, Frank and Bernice Rakauskas; brother and his wife, Jerome & Anna Rock; sisters and their husbands, Anselma & Vincent Stinavage and Crescenta & John Stukas; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Helen & Nick Urdanick and Anna & Anthony Greblick; nephew, James Rock; niece, Marie Antoni; and great- niece, Christina Nichols. Regina is survived by her family whom she passionately loved. She was Mom to Dolores & Robert Schwartz and Michelle & Chuck Brugger. She was Nana to grandchildren, Jennifer Schwartz, Andrew and Sara Ann Brugger, Kevin Schwartz, David and Victoria Brugger, and Daniel Brugger and great-grandchildren Abigail Brugger and Marshall and Theodore Brugger. She is also survived by sister-in-law Eleanor Korchak; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; friends, and very good friend, Elaine Habla. Regina was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and was retired from I.B.M.
She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Binghamton where she was active the Altar Rosary Society and Nocturnal Adoration Society, and was a Eucharistic minister for the homebound. She also volunteered at the Susquehanna Nursing Home. Regina had a kind, generous, and loving heart that will live on in those who knew her. Special thanks to the staff at St. John's Home and Lifetime Care Hospice in Rochester. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Bednarsky Funeral Home, 96 Glenwood Avenue, Binghamton, NY.  A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas St., Binghamton. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
