David F. Scudder

David F. Scudder, 79, died on Monday, October 30, 2017.  He was predeceased by his wife, Joan (Pidanick) Scudder; parents, Frank & Edna Mae Scudder; beloved grandmother, Mable Barnett; and his mother-in-law, Mary Pidanick.   He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark D. Scudder and Rebecca O'Brien; brother and sister-in-law, Henry C. & Joan Scudder, of Norwich; nephew, Robert, and his wife, Kathleen Kennedy, and their son, Corbin, of Pryor, OK; cousin, Robert Scudder & partner, Nancy Balwin, of Norwich; niece, Karri & husband, Michael Beckwith; great-niece, Allison; and great-nephew, Bradley, all of Oxford.  David earned an AA degree from Towson State College and finished his Bachelor's degree at Empire State College.  He served in the United States Air Force Reserve, including a year at Etain Air Force Base in France.  He was a retired engineer from General Electric Corp., with a 32-year career.  David was a member of an Industrial Engineering Professional Society;  he set up and operated an after-hours project to bring customized, low cost adaptive equipment to those with disabilities throughout the Southern Tier.  As a result of his efforts he  received the Gerald Phillipe Award for Community Service from G.E. Corp. and also received two Presidential Citations at the White House from President Ronald Reagan. He served as the vice-president of the Society of Industrial Engineers. Upon his retirement from G.E. Corp., David formed the consulting firm of Intellidapt, Inc., to bring Adaptive Equipment Consulting services to the NYS VESID offices and the NYS Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.  Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 PM on Monday, November 6, 2017, at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton.  Words of remembrance will be shared at 7:00 PM.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
