Thomas Boyd Obituary

Thomas Boyd, 71 passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Mercy House in Endicott after a six-month assault by a glioblastoma brain tumor.  He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Debbie; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John & Jennifer Boyd, of NC and Bill Boyd, of Idaho; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Kisacky, Randy & Debbie Kisacky, and Doreen Kisacky & Rex Lawson. Tom is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews who all called him their favorite uncle.  He was predeceased by his parents, William & Martha Boyd; and his in-laws, John & Penny Kisacky, whom he adored.  He was a 1970 graduate of Vestal High School.  Tom worked at Scoville Ford for several years, where he met his lifelong love, Debbie.  Together they bought an old farmhouse with 15 acres near Binghamton and gently restored and remodeled it over the years.  Tom began working as an installer for the Overhead Door Co. in Binghamton in 1976. The owner recognized Tom's business skills and gradually gave him more responsibilities, until he became the manager in the 1980's.  This led to his role as CEO for the Overhead Door Co. of Binghamton and Cortland, during which he won national honors. He retired 3 years ago after 44 years of employment.  Tom played ice hockey for the Rivermede Hockey League for more than 40 years and led the league in scoring a few times.  He was also very involved with stock car racing since 1972 and was the most fun guy to have on several pit crew teams.  He and Debbie were excellent skiers at Greek Peak, turning many heads with his beautiful style of skiing.  Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 (closing prayers at 4:00 PM)  and 7:00-8:30 PM on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton, where the Funeral Service will be held at 8:30 PM.  Burial will be in Slovak Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy House, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott  or to Lourdes Hospice.
