Carl J. Winterberger, 95, died on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary; and his brother, Alan. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Peake-Winterberger; his children, John & Donna Winterberger, Suzanne Winterberger, Charlie & Amy Winterberger, Anne & Jeff Corey, Barbara Winterberger, and Tom & Lynn Winterberger; Marilyn's children, Kim & Tim Fiedler, Carrie & Tom Klug, Jeff & Kristen Peake, Gregory & Janille Peake, and Kristen & Jeff McCreary. Carl shared much love with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren from his two families. Also survived by a sister, Sandra Thornton; and two nieces. Carl was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. He was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy, was a self-employed land surveyor/civil engineer and a graduate of Union College. He was well-respected as the owner of Carl Winterberger Surveying and took great pride in his jobs. Carl was an extremely gentle, kind and caring person. He enjoyed cross-country skiing, flying his Yankee plane, and exploring the Adirondacks, searching for covered bridges and old canals. The family would like to thank Stacie for always watching over him. He died from natural causes. Marilyn's message to Carl is, "My dear Carl, I will always love and miss you. Be happy in heaven." A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 29 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass at 10:00. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
